Age of Empires III... whats your oppinion
 

Okay so AoE III just came out here in New Zealand...
What are your oppinions on this game? Apart from the better scripting and graphics, that you would expect from a renewed title in this day of better graphics cards and processing. What are the differences.

If you play a lot of this sort of game then what about comparisons between games like Empire Earth etc?

My opinion:
Not nearly as good as the hype suggested as I expected big changes in unit and gameplay type...
graphics great...(tuned for nvidia cards with HW T&L)
gameplay okay...(empire earth II better)
cinematics...average
playablility...average
addictability...below average

i thought it was crap after all the hype. It has great graphics but they did not improve the interface at all and the playability wasn't improved either.

Okay more gripes about a truely crap release from M$

This game would be brilliant if it didn't have to compete with anything else in the RTS class. Like, any other AoE, or Empire Earth or RoN, or Cossacks or even Dark War.

Then you have the games which truly blow the proverbial out of AoE III like Rome: Total War and the expansions for it. Even Medieval Total War breaks out ahead in my oppinion.

The only thing this game rates better in is the graphics and it's debateable whether they mean that much anyway. Strategy is strategy whatever you're looking at.

Stupid AI on every level. Even a beginer player should realise that trying to build a trade post where I've parked an outpost is a dumb idea. Or that parking a ship or dock in constant range of my mortars is equally dumb.(very quick to polish off a ship with 5 mortars lined up on a cliff). Then consistantly building the dock in the same place once i decide to finally get rid of it. DUH.

Now... I'm not a good player by any means, far from it. But I expected more from AI in a brand new game, Bigger and better maps. The small maps encourage a fast game for multiplayer but golly you'd expect slightly bigger for single player or skirmish wouldn't you? Or even being able to select the size?

The only benifit in having the real game over the demo is the multiplayer. But I'm sure there's someone that's already taken care of that...

There's my verdict. A truely disapointing effort from M$. Even though it is a pretty one at that. The only people who deserve any credit in that team are the artists who created the maps flora/fauna and game objects. Otherwise... the glue that holds it all together is sorely lacking. Like using PVA instead of Elephant glue.

Every Age of Empire I have played the AI is crap. I doubt they changed
anything on this one.

Apart from the graphics, the games not that different from the other games
Ive got the other two in teh series but probably wont be getting this one as its just another game exactly like the others, whats the point in wasting money!

I like the economic base of the game(the gold, wood, meat, trade stuff) but the actual fighting sucks. After 2 armies start fighting its not very interesting. Inovative startegies don't really work. Its all about makin a big army with archery. Defend the long range stuff with the army and get the buildings down. This gets pretty bring after a while. Try command and conquer generals(Zero Hour).

I played the demo only. Aside from the movies included in the storyline it is almost identical to AoE II. I was hoping for some changes but, nope. None here.

its OK... harder to control you citzens and armys as they spread out... and no auto explor so you can actually lose track or people

Pretty boring indeed. Just finished the first part of it and not sure if I'm gonna play any further. Still, haven't tried the multiplayer bit...

great graphics,but levelling up homecities is boring.

also once you choose a civ, and say get a decent level of city,you HAVE to play with that civ only or start from scratch
