Re: DVD Burner?

I'd go for the Pioneer A07. It is dead cheap, burns fine, and Pioneer have already made firmware making it go dual layer. Wether they release it or not, we don't know but if they can do it, i'm sure some firmware hackers can. I've got an NEC 2500, which apparently is a Pioneer a07 rebadged, but don't quote me on that. That burns fine too, no problems so far.

Re: DVD Burner?

BeRon, If I were you I would wait it out. The Dual Layers are coming later this year. Much better than the standard single layer and then you won't have to sit and wait for DVDShrink to rerender those duals to a single size.
Yes, I am an avid backup'er. I have copies of my favorite DVD's downstairs and upstairs so I don't have to hunt for them. ;-)

Re: DVD Burner?

I also have a Lite-On DVD burner and haven't had any problems with it. I ordered this one from newegg:

Lite-On LDW-811S (click for direct link)

It's cheap, reliable, and fast (burning both dvds and cds).

Re: DVD Burner?

I'd go with the Lite-On. I've had many lite-on drives in the past, and build many computers with them in there. They are reliable, inexpensive, and they are generally good drives. Also, if your comptuer is a little older, be sure to review the system requirements for the dvd drive. Some drives can be high. Like the sonys don't even support win 98 at all.

Re: DVD Burner?

Stay away from Benq, Hi-Val, or Digital Research... all crap. They package whatever cheap model they can get their hands on. Buy anything from Sony, Plextor, or Pioneer. I've have 2 DVD burners right now, one is an external firewire Sony 8x that I use with my laptop and I have a Plextor 8x on my desktop.
