No one in law enforcement wants to do that because the odds are good that at least one person has probably been executed for a crime he didn't commit. Hell, it's difficult to get them to release people who've been wrongly convicted as it is. If we were to discover that an innocent person had been executed, we'd have to rethink the whole system. Like my grandmother used to say: can't do that, it would be too much like right!!!
