Re: Barrack Obama's Plan for our Military...

I was a proponent of nuclear weapons for a number of years. One of my previous jobs was at a defense nuclear facility that produced 55% of our nations nuclear material and currently stores about 30-50 tons of it. We have many thousands of nuclear weapons in-service or readily available; the former Soviet Union has much more.

In todays world, it doesn't require the number of weapons we have to project the power our politians desire. Also, I do much work around the country with our first responders and other agencies to prepare and respond to nuclear and radiological events.

I applaud him for the desire to remove our nuclear weapons from immediate use; I applaud him for pursuing prevention of fissile material to countries that do not have it.

I don't know if we can ever go to a world without nuclear weapons, but it is a nice goal. There is a group in Cali that seeks to abolish nuclear weapons or remove our weapons from an "immediate use" posture. If you'd like more info, check our wagingpeace.org. I don't agree with all their views, but I think some deserve consideration.
