i learn about this party thanks to my friend hollywood snob... it seem that their points of view can be seen a little radical for our times... but by the same token it can be seem like an extra-traditional old american way

Re: constitution party...

Admittedly, I haven't read through their whole platform, but I've read most of it. The thing that scares me about the Constitution party is their stated goal:

"The goal of the Constitution Party is to restore American jurisprudence to its Biblical foundations and to limit the federal government to its Constitutional boundaries."

Restore American jurisprudence to its Biblical foundations? In fact the First Amendment expressly forbids establishment of religion by the government. Incorporation of ideas is one thing; don't kill, don't steal, don't hurt your neighbor, etc (most religions have these ideas as tenets). Claiming that the Constitution and the American laws need to return to it's Biblical foundations implies that the foundations were in fact religiously-based and not rights-based. We have a document called the Bill of Rights. Last time I checked, we don't have a Bill of Religion. Why? Read the First Amendment.

These are the folks to whom the Democratic party respond, and in the process lump in the conservative movement as the "Christian right" (read into that moniker anything you like). I am an atheist, yet I still share many of the values of Christianity (and by extension Judaism, Islam, Buddhism, etc). I am also a traditional conservative when it comes to economics and national defense, but I am also a conservative in my support of gay marriage and legalization of drugs. I don't believe the government has any right to legislate love, marriage, or what consenting adults want to do in the private.

Sadly, I will be lumped in with the "Religious right" (read into that label anything you like) despite that fact that I am not religious but want smaller government.

Re: constitution party...

beautiful response rb76... i hope that u continue cntribuiting

i think that religions basically are based on common sense values.. sharing those values does not mean we or you have to believ in something... as i mentioned once... i respect an honest man with no beliefs more than the religious one that is dishonest...

rep your way

Sounds like you might be a libertarian.:

I’m a registered republican, but I truly think I’m more of a hybrid between republican and libertarian.

Re: constitution party...

I agree, RB76 sounds like he is a Libertarian at heart(good for him). The Constitution Party is actually Neo-Conservative. Around these parts we call it the Jesse Helms Party. The founders of this party got together in the '70's in response to moderates taking over the Republican Party. They play as a foil everytime the Republicans move to the center on policy. They have been at it long enough to actually have people work behind the scenes to form some of the Bush Administration policies. This party may sound radical, but they have been influencing public policy for years. It seems they are here to stay.

I'm actually registered as independant just so I don't get mail from the Republican party asking for money. However, I'm definitely more of a libertarian than anything else. Unfortunately, since we as a country seem to be stuck on having a two-party system, the libertarians will appear to be an off-shoot of the Republican party.

Where the rubber meets the road, it's the economy that has to be strong for us to be strong. Without it, we can't pay for national defense and law enforcement. Any other spending is a luxury and thus should be secondary (if not eliminated).

The neo-cons freak out the left much like moveon.org freaks out the right. The thing I find the most entertaining about politics in general is that that the extreme fringes of the right and left agree on many things; just for totally different reasons.
