I can honestly confirm my athiest beliefs are strong, I have considered God but firmly and strongly believe religion is not for me. I am proud to seperate myself from it in fact.

True, but it does mean they might be giving a "deceptive" answer.

Whether true or not, I think that story about the polygraph is pretty interesting. I'd like to see how I fair on it, because I have put a lot of thought into my beliefs. I've thought a lot about if there could be a god out there, but I simply don't feel that there is one after compiling all my ideas and thoughts. Every time I think of a reason that god may exist, an opposite thought nullifies it.

And about the religion causing more harm than good, I do agree with you (Jimi) that there are some crazies that will be taking lives no matter what is involved, but like ButterMup said, I think that religion is definitely just another (big) tool of segregation between people. And we all know what one of the manifestations of segregation is...hate.

Whooh there. I have a little problem with you equation: Religion = segregation = hate.

I believe if you are a Christian you have to follow Christ’s teaching, right? Jesus hated no one, even when they nailed him to the cross. He taught “turn the other cheek” and “love thy enemies.” There are no teachings in the Christianity that I know that tell you if someone doesn’t believe like you do then they should be separated or segregated. That’s not to say some people don’t end up there, or that some “Christian faiths” push that doctrine. However to paint all religion (Christian or not) with the broad brush that says: “Be like us, or we hate you” is unfair and wildly inaccurate.

I am so christian. I really like some of the buddhist beliefs though but they never get in the way of christian teachings.
