So the first debate is over...What do you think?
Now that debate #1 is now over what do you think about what was said. To me just seemed like the same stuff weve heard for the last few months anyway.

Re: So the first debate is over...What do you think?
I think Kerry did what he needed to do. He was clear on his stance and was very articulate about his so-called "mixed messages" as Bush put it so redundantly. Bush on the other hand did not answer back to any allegations and it clearly costed him dearly. This was not Bush's night, Kerry did a much better job then expected and I think even the media is quite blown back by his performance tonight.

Re: So the first debate is over...What do you think?
I thought Kerry did an good job making his points, but I thought he could have done better trying to dispell the whole "flip-flop" thing. Bush, however, did even worse than I expected him to. And that's saying a lot considering his reputation as an orator...

Wow and here I thought Kerry in the few moments I watched and commentary I heard just made an ass of himself. More to come when I read/see the full debate though. I have a quote for you guys/gals as soon as I find an exact on it.

Re: So the first debate is over...What do you think?
I have a quote for you from Bush. "Can I have 30 more seconds to respond to that?"
Mod: "Sure 30 more seconds each."
Bush stares blankly ahead for 30 seconds, "Uuuhhhhh.................."
I'm still on the fence on who I'm going to vote for, but Bush made a very poor showing last night.

He made fatal errors any person learns in speech or communications classes. He used lots of filler words and not only long moments of silence, but had a very blank stare as if he was confused or lost what he was going to say. He did not appear to be all there last night at all.

Re: So the first debate is over...What do you think?
I tend to agree with George Will. These aren’t debates. They’re parallel press conferences.
I’m fiercely independent when it comes to politics. And I feel I’ll be voting against someone than for someone. Bush played the phrase drop game in a ridiculous fashion. Kerry side-stepped a bit more than he should have.
I’d say Kerry won a sound victory.
I listened to the first have of the debate on radio—so as not to have a visual bias. Bush sounded ill-prepared and apologetic. His repeated quips of “this is hard work” were nothing short of moronic. We know it’s hard work. You are the leader of the free world, you’re commander of a military force embroiled in a conflict with no clear exit strategy. It’s hard work. But don’t tell us that. Tell us what you’re doing. And tell us the truth . . . the whole truth. We don’t need window dressing and spin.
Truly, I wish we had a candidate worthy of electing. Again, the public will be forced to settle.

Bush will still win though. Those polls were for those on the internet and stuff.

Re: So the first debate is over...What do you think?
CNN.com has a poll running very similar figures
President George W. Bush 21% 123557 votes
Sen. John Kerry 71% 409760 votes
Evenly matched 7% 42616 votes
Surprisingly, Fox News (the most conservative network) has their viewer's poll as a pretty close tie. This should serve as a shock to George W.
It was a tie: 15%
President Bush: 40%
Senator Kerry: 39%
I did not watch: 5%
None of the above: 1%

Re: So the first debate is over...What do you think?
I've been looking forward to this debate. It really brought the 2 canidates to the table and proved once and for all how much of a poor leader "Dubya George W." is. If he talks and represents himself to foriegn leaders as well as he did last night we are definately in a world of trouble. We all knew he wasn't the best speaker around, but he looked like an Ass up there especialy when the cameras were on him when Kerry was talking. I believe we've been liad to by Bush and we never should have gone into Irac without the UN support. Were in a heep o trouble there now and hopefully will be able to get out sooner than later. My heart go's out to our men and woman over there losing their lives and limbs because of George W's Good O Boy attitude of wanting to Kick some Ass. We need a president with some brains and diplomacy not somebody living in a "I'm the all powerful OZ" ego trip. Looking forward to the next 2 debates.... Kerry should solidify his success after those.

You guys should check out the run of Fox New's post-debate coverage, even if it's just to watch the first minutes of Bill O'Reilly and he has a conservative and a dem come on and ask their questions for the two candidates. It was pretty entertaining.
Another thing that I've learned recently is that people need a 40 second time-spot to gather their thoughts. The mistakes we make are in thinking every moment of a conversation has to be filled. W, however, instead of thinking beforehand, seems to be thinking during his turn to speak. Like I said, I need to see a lot more of the debate, I was in class and had an exam for most of them!
One last thing, my heart goes out to soldiers everywhere too. But they are doing their job. They signed up for it, so they (should) know that was what was going to happen. Most military families you meet with a long history with the military have just come to accept that. (or at least deal with in it their own way, which doesn't usually include screaming at the government). I've had to come to accept that my brother-in-law might get called out before he retires in another year or two and that my sister, a former captain, might get called for the reserves. It's sad, but if they die, they knew what they were getting into and I won't blame the government for their deaths.

That poll was on MSNBC.com, they ran polls on foxnews and cnn as well, that I did not see on their sites until today. I was listening to woai.com which here in san antonio is hard core republican. Even the radio personalities on that show were saying how after watching the debate they were confident that Kerry had a sound victory in this debate. They also said how shocked they were to find that fox news was trying to swing the debate in bush's favor when they believed and every other news station believed it was not even a close call. I remmeber fox news creating crazy swing for bush after he lost the first debate in 200 against gore as well. However it doesn't seem to have the impact liek this one because even the fox news viewers who are majority reublican are split on their poll.
