Re: Fox News - Fair and Balanced?
Here is a big argument I have with Fox News that I was noticing this mornign while getting reay for work. I would just liek to note that I am undecided and definitely not taking Kerry's side.
When Kerry got attacked for his war record, who fought and served, Fox News covered every second of it and was very critical doing as much research as possible and having as many experts speak as possible. They talked about how Kerry was soft and couldn't attack Bush on this issue and how he made a big mistake not doing his research. Now that Kerry has attacked back and brought out documentation showing Bush's war record, its wrong to do, and we need to respect his presidency...and they even had to mentin clinton dodged the draft. As I said earlier, Fox News reports things as they see to fit there stance and brings up only the facts to persuade your feelings on an issue.
I do agree C-SPAN is the best source when wanting to see things without any bias at all, just exactly what the media sees and then throws there opinions on to. Although it can get boring at times.

Re: Fox News - Fair and Balanced?
FOX represents exactly why news programming should not be judged on ratings!
The network practices sensationalist journalism. Truly, the axiom of "If it bleeds, it leads" applies to FOX above all others. Every journalist stands responsible for the quality of his/her story. But FOX, as a network--beyond news--pushes the boundries of taste and unbiased reporting.
FOX proves that the news is about noise. If you create the loudest bang, you'll get a larger share. And larger shares and increased ratings equate to advertising dollars. That's all FOX News will ever care about. Journalistic integrity is lost on that network.
To judge a journalist (or a news network), use the Sam Donaldson scale. The Reagan camp (and Bush #1) hated Donaldson, claiming he was liberal. The Clinton administration hated Donaldson, claiming he was conservative. The moral: Donaldson asked hard to answer questions that few would address . . . leaving the politicos to toss out labels as a defensive tactic.

I believe that sensational was a rather well-placed word, personally.

Re: Fox News - Fair and Balanced?
I have a million points I want to make but I'm tired as hell, so I'll just wonder how any news (I use that term loosely) program can regularly show a "XXX Days Until Bush's Reelection" banner and still claim to be fair and balanced.
If anyone wants to see a good take on Fox News, go see Outfoxed. Even if you disregard the liberal slant, they still make a series of excellent points.

Love that book. A good look at how the government can become too powerful, which for the record I believe it is already.
In reply to the reply to mine: I don't consider politics critical and important. I explained that it was well over a year ago, and my life a year ago had me focused on the fact that I was about to go to college as a freshman, was living with my sister in Texas (for fun, not because of some weird family circumstance) and I don't remember things like that anyways, but I do remember that an opinion was formed. As well, my Dad is a pretty credited source, considering he's a retired colonel from the army and has more connections than you (or I) could imagine. Sorry if I don't ask him for specifics where he gets his information, but it's usually a friend who's still active or shouldn't be revealed, because the military is more thorough than they let on.
I would go on more, but PM me if you have any furthur concern with me please

Re: Fox News - Fair and Balanced?
Once again, they make the "Fair and Balanced" claim and, conservative or liberal, all the above posts seem to agree that Fox leans to the right. That is not "Balanced". I don't care one way or the other what their or any other media outlet's politics are. Fox clearly doesn't live up to the claim, so why make it?

I agree.
I think that Fox News has the right to slant the news however they want, but they should not do so whilst calling themselves "Fair and Balanced". I'd be much happier if they came up with a better slogan. "News For Conservatives, By Conservatives" or something like that

Cause some people believe what they are told. The network lies about being fair and balanced, but some people take that at face value. The sad thing about Fox News is that quite a few conservatives believe it to be right wing as well! However, their slogan isn't directed to those people and if they can "brainwash" a few people it's worth it to them.
