Ok, so im really new to the dss scene and want to get some things straight...

Basically, to get free satellite, I go out and buy the hardware, set it up, use an AVR, put the card that came with the reciever into the AVR and program it through parallel port with a hex key that changes periodically and put that whole assembly in the recievers card port to get free tv???

am i rite or am i way off??

Well sorta something like that. You can get most of what you need on fleabay. Currently dishnetwork is the one that can be hacked. So you need a reciever that can be read by your computer to extract a few things you need. then reprogram a dishnet card with a card reader/writer (ISO Programmer)
Shopping list.
1. Reciever that can be read by your comp (some can and some cant be read). and a dual lnb satellite dish.
2. dish card. Rom 10 or a Rom 101,102 or 103. Rom 10 is easier and requires less hardware.
3. ISO programmer.
4. a JTAG to read the reciever.
5. Various freeware programs to read and write your card and reciever.

It may be easier for a newb to go the FTA Reciever route. It can do dishnetwork also and may be easier to jump into and get going. I haven't done FTA so I cant tell you much about it. It's pretty easy to get going and comes with most everything you need in the box, reviever, dish, programming cable.

Whichever route, Files are mostly freeware.
