i was just watchin the news and they were talkin about a deadly car accident. they said the names havent been released yet but well get you them when they are. it led me to ask why is it so important to broadcast someones misfortune by name on the news? is it to make it more human and personal? is it for ratings or is it to let friends and family know? just curious

Re: name on the news

they do it for ratings. No one watches the news to hear about the good things, everyone is just interested in what went wrong, who got hurt, and whatever else is negative.

I personally think the news is bullshit. I'd much rather read the newspaper which has actual stories that make an impact. The news has a HUGE impact on our society in a negative way. My mom watches the news MULTIPLE times a day and is one of those who stays in the house and thinks if she goes out after dark she's just asking to get shot.

No matter how I explain it to her.. she's blinded by the bullshit the media feeds. Yes, 3 people got shot in the DC area today.. but thats out of how many millions??? Not to mention 2.. or even all 3 of them prolly did something to REALLY piss the person off to shoot them like (bad drug deal, rat them out, whatever).

My point is.. her odds of getting shot are prolly .000001%. Yet, she thinks it happens to 1 in 3 people.

Re: name on the news

i hear ya. the news does nothing but further sensationalize violence. not that i am opposed to it, cuz it makes for good TV. but in all seriousness, what makes those program directors believe that people are more interested indecent peoples misfortunes than their well being? example...if a house burns down with a mother and two kids trapped inside, dont publicize that immeadiately. let the family have some time to deal with it and make the decision to move forward with notifications. i mean, what give the medial the right to air someones dirt that way? now, if some dude is busted raping kids??? flame on! he gets no privacy, and hopefully he gets taken the fuck out by a sniper. ok, i will get off my high horse and go back to lurking

Well, they also release names because people may know the victims.

Re: name on the news

The News does suck.. but admit it. Your TOTALLY ADDICTED to BREAKING NEWS

I was.. shit. CNN went a week straight with breaking news. I couldnt tear myself away.

local news programming is so wacked though. one good story to entice you to sit through an hour of violence to get to it at the end of the show.

The one thing that disturbs me the most. are these people who lose thier kids.. yet still find time to make a cameo and cry on camera. I personally dont get it. If I lost someone. and you stuck a mic in my face to ask how I felt.. um.. no.

Re: name on the news

i hate the tv news. i have a very personal experience with how bad these news crews are. back in november, my best friend was in a car accident which left him paralyzed. he is only 17. the local news team that was the first there went into his truck, which was laying on its side, and took out his school jacket and one of his shoes, and laid them in the dirt, just to get video of it.needless to say, i gave them hell for it. just an example.
