Anyone Know??
I have a USB external hard drive that will not work on my computer (windows xp). In the device manager it says the driver is version 5.1.2600.0 . It works on my parents computer under driver version 5.1.2535.0 . My question is how the hell can I change the driver to that specific one. I have tried to automatically download the updates but I cant find anything that will work. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Anyone Know??
do other devices work in the same port?
logical thing to check if the port is buggered in any way
XP will not need a driver
sounds more of a compatibility issue
did it work onyour PC before?
how old is the parents PC? and how old is yours? how old is external drive?
do you have usb2 or usb1.1?
also try finding out what hard drive is in the external casing and find out what motherboard you have and google the 2 items to find out if there is compatibility issues between them

Re: Anyone Know??
The only other device that works in usb is my ipod, no cameras will work, no external anything usb, they use to but just stopped one day only the ipod connection continues to work.
The hard drive is an initio and there are no compatibility problems I could find.
All three are new within the last year and a half.
USB2.
Thanks for replying
