i have two computers but my dsl modem only has a single port. my dell laptop has 2 lan cards, 1 is used for internet, while the other one is used to network the other pc.

what should i do so that the 2nd PC would also have an internet connection (coming from the internet connection of the 1st PC).?

You need to ensure that Internet Connection Sharing is enabled, and that your firewall is configured to allow your 2nd PC to use the Internet connection

Also - sounds obvious but your 1st PC has to be on for the 2nd to be able to use the Internet as well, and that if both are using the net. there may be some slow down

I think on XP, you right click on My Computer and under one of the tabs that's where the Internet connection Sharing thing is - but I can't remember as I'm not on XP

1st lan card (PC #1) is to the internet (obtain IP and DNS automatically, checked), internet connection sharing is also checked
2nd lan card (PC #1) is in the network (IP is 192.168.0.1) connected with
3rd lan card (PC #2) obtain IP and DNS automatically, checked. but i don't know what gateway address to write since my 1st lan card is using DHCP.

and do i need to write something on the DNS server address of 2nd and 3rd lan card?

my head really hurts thinking about how to configure this...

You don't mention an Ethernet cross over cable or a workgroup switch so is connectivity between pc's good?

You would want to set DNS on any manually configured connections.

Your problem sounds like the 3rd card doesn't know how to route IP traffic up your chain of cards. I would try this:

Set PC1 3rd lan card to a static IP on the same subnet as 2nd card but outside of the ICS DHCP scope.

On PC1 go into network connections and highlight 2nd & 3rd lan cards, right click and choose Bridge Connections. Set the bridge to a static IP on the same subnet as 2nd lan card.

Summary:
PC1 1st lan card set by your ISP
PC1 2nd lan card 192.168.0.1 set by ICS
PC1 3rd lan card 192.168.0.200 set by you
PC1 bridge 192.168.0.201 set by you
PC2 1st lan card 192.168.0.2 set by ICS on PC1

If PC2 doesn't grab an address, try setting PC2 to 192.168.0.202 and pinging .1, .200, and .201.

uhmm...

PC1 has only 2 lancards. i have tried bridging it, but i lost the internet, and the bridge has no IP address, even i give it a DHCP, internet wont still work. also after bridging, i lost network connectivity with PC2.

Yeah you're right, you don't need to bridge. Somehow I interpreted your 2nd post to mean you had a 3rd card in your 1st pc.

Your 2nd pc's gateway is going to be 192.168.0.1.
Your DNS on all lan cards gets set to your ISP's DNS.

You have anything against having a router. All you would have to do is go out and get one either wired or wireless and plug the modem into there and then you can have multiple computers with the same internet connection.
