Juan Pablo Montoya
Juan Pablo Montoya just signed with Chip Ganassi to race in NASCAR in 2007. is this a career suicide for Montoya? He said that he had some formula 1 options open but he declined them. What do you think...is he desparate for a driving positon?

Re: Juan Pablo Montoya
In 10 F1 races he led 6 laps. There have been 3 winners and Alonso and Shumacher have won 9 of 10. By switching he immediately puts himself in a car that can compete. If anything he might expand the fan base of Nascar

Re: Juan Pablo Montoya
Monetary, F1 is the place to be.. but competativeness NASCAR is the place to be. Not many series where half the field could win on any given sunday..
I do think it will take some time for him to get adjusted.. but since he got booted from his Mclaren ride this week, he should get the chance to run some races this year and get ready for his ROTY season.

Re: Juan Pablo Montoya
I think this is a great move for him and NASCAR. He will need a adjustment period for sure, going from a F! car to stock car is big change. However, I think he has the skill to compete.
Ganassi as a owner has to set-up to the plate as well though. His cars are not as good as Hendrick and Roush.

Re: Juan Pablo Montoya
No doubt he is in for a big surprise. In F1 you never want to touch another car for fear of messing up the handling, since F1 cars are so aerodynamic dependant. In NASCAR, especially on short tracks they don't mind moving you out the way at all.

Re: Juan Pablo Montoya
JPM is a class act and has always been able to mix it with the best. I feel he will take Nascar by storm, that is when he is released from his F1 contract.
A wise man would bet his house on Montoya before America wakes up to just how quick he is.

yeah, but NASCAR isn't as fast as F1. The name of the game in NASCAR is drafting. Especially on the big tracks *Daytona, Talladega, Atlanta, etc*
None of the F1 or Indy drivers have made anything of themselves when they went to NASCAR. Look at Al Unser, he tried and didn't do anything. Now, Tony Stewart is the exception to the rule. But he can win in just about anything he sits down in.
Look at the IROC races, and there are several Indy drivers that run those races and don't do all that well.

Re: Juan Pablo Montoya
Well I think he is in the right place now, should have chosen such a rambo-class right away
And nope, I doubt that too many will miss him. He never proved to have the class of a Schuhmacher, Raikkönen oder Alonso. And we surely don't need someone to cause crashes, thatfor F1 has sponsored %%%%%% Drivers

Re: Juan Pablo Montoya
He's an idiot. Nascar won't challenge him, nor excite him, nor better him. I can't remember what the quote was, but on Letterman he said "F1 to Nascar is like Go Karts to a Tractor."
I don't see what he's gaining or achieving. F1 to Nascar?!! LOOSER.

Re: Juan Pablo Montoya
Quick update on JPM....
Seven-time grand prix winner Juan Pablo Montoya carved a unique place in history on Sunday when he took victory in the famous Daytona 24 Hours sportscar race.
The former McLaren ace was invited to join Chip Ganassi's team for the all-star season opener in Florida and shared the winning Lexus-Riley car with team-mates Salvador Duran and Scott Pruett.
Montoya, who races for Ganassi's NASCAR Nextel Cup squad after walking out on F1 last June, is only the second man after Mario Andretti to have won the Indianapolis 500, a GP and the Daytona 24 Hours.
"It's a big deal for me," he said afterwards.
"The boys worked so hard for this. Me, Salvador [Duran] and Scott [Pruett] all worked hard and we kept the car on the road at all times and that was the key to victory.
"We made no mistakes and were fast when we had to be."
Montoya will begin his first full Nextel Cup campaign in the Daytona 500 on Sunday, February 10.
Should be good for his confidence prior to the season kicking off. Lets wait and see what good fortune the ovals bring.

Re: Juan Pablo Montoya
No good fortune on the ovals yet. Won a busch race by taking his own teammate out, but hasn't done much on the nextel circuit yet.
