Re: CD drive CLICKING!!!
well i suggest just cleaning out your entire PC motherboard.....it could have probably just gathered too much dust and is now a little backed up and if after you clean it it is still acting up then i would just buy a new dvd drive...
P.S don't clean it out if you don't know how to because the motherboard can easily short-circuit...so yup hope I helped good luck

Re: CD drive CLICKING!!!
the mother board would have but very little to do with the failure of a cd/dvd player/burner failing/malfunctioning . most likely the optical assy has given up the ghost .
try this before springing for a new unit though :
if you have one of those cans of "compressed air" (it aint) ... open the drive door , stick the "snorkle tube" slightly inside of the drive (1/2 inch is plenty) and give it a blow ... follow this up with one of those "disk cleaner" units (the kind that has a little brush that you put a drop of fluid on) .
if after this the drive is still malfunctioning , it is time for a new unit .
fortunately , PC style drives are very reasonable in price ... get a full "aftermarket" package ... it will contain the software needed .
the price of the optical drives for notebook/laptop comps still makes me salivate and my right eye twitch .

Re: CD drive CLICKING!!!
My guess would be that the motor of the drive is failing from the wear and tear.
