Virus protection (spy sweeper?)

click on one of our sponsors! OR REMOVE ADS
For all of you computer people or anyone in general, I need an opinion:

on my computer right now I have AVG virus protection, spyware blaster, Multi-virus cleaner 2006, and the Avorax shield.

My webroot spysweeper subscription just expired, should I renew it or is my virus protection adequate? Thanks in advance!

Re: Virus protection (spy sweeper?)

hmmm ...

i use avg , adaware , spybot s&d , ccleaner and a couple of other programs ...
just a suggestion here ... you might think about using spybot s&d to replace your webroot program (it's free , but they do take donations !) .

another point here ... you mentioned "spyware blaster" ... i hope this is a typo on your part ... there is a difference between "spyware blaster" and "spywareblaster" . this is defined at this addy :

http://www.spywarewarrior.com/rogue...are.htm#sh_note

this is a good site for finding out about all the crapware "anti" programs ... i am sure there are other sites , but this is a good place to start !

Re: Virus protection (spy sweeper?)

here ya go ...

http://www.safer-networking.org/en/download/

get the latest flavor ... it is listed at the top of the download section . don't sweat the rest of the dl's listed ... use the updater found in the program itself .
i download one update at a time ... i seem to have better luck that way . restarting the program ensures that the update(s) are indeed installed and in effect . a couple of the updates have requested a restart .

use the advanced interface . be sure to use the "bad download blocker" (found under "immunize")! take a look at : settings/ignore products , there is a tab that lists ALL the stuff that spybot will search for ... scan down thru the list ... UNSELECT any products that are listed (cdilla comes to mind) ... there are a couple of other settings to be made but , this will get you to the point of being able to do your first scan ... the rest are "fine tuning" .

be sure to tell your other "anti" programs to ignore/not do anything with spybot's stuff ... sometimes these will delete files from each other !

if you need help , post here or pm me ... i work some crazy hours but will help out when i manage to remember how to find my way home .

Re: Virus protection (spy sweeper?)

I reccomend ad-aware for spyware/adware management its a solid program, i havent had any problems with that... but i have had problems with spy sweeper, and ad-aware picked up stuff that spy sweeper was missing. The company that makes ad-aware (lavasoft) also has a firewall package i think i might try that out ill let you know.

If your using AVG why not just get the packaged AVG program which is AVG- internet security that comes with a firewall/anti-virus/anti-spyware/email scanner/spam blocker...

Re: Virus protection (spy sweeper?)

Hey CWB one thing i gotta ask, whats with using so many diffrent programs?

" use avg , adaware , spybot s&d , ccleaner and a couple of other programs "

i mean ad-aware works for the same thing spybot does, doesn't it? and that didnt even sound like all the prgrams your running which other ones are you using and why so many?
