Looking for a new author
Hey everyone, I need to find another author to start reading. Lately I've been on a John Grisham kick and have been reading about a book a week of his, and am having trouble finding more of his work.
Anyone have any suggestions for authors who also write books that deal mainly with law?
Or if anyone has any suggestions on some other genres and authors that are addictive, it would be appreciated if you replied.

Re: Looking for a new author
Another Author that writes some really good books dealing with Cops and lawyers is John Lescroart.
His main batch stars Dismas hardy the lawyer and Abe Glitsky the cop . .I recommend everything he has ever written.
If you are in the mood for a detective sort of story, Robert B Parker is an excellent author. He wrote the books that spawned the TV show Spenser for hire . . tho the tv show never held a candle to the books . . Spenser is a smartass to the Nth degree, funny, and tough as nails . . pretty much every book by this author is worth reading.

Re: Looking for a new author
I recently had to pull a late shift at work, and knew it would be boring, so I bought a book I never had seen before - Patrick A Davis.
"The Shattered Blue Line" - He is a former Air Force officer and writes a very interesting story about the acadamy and some crimes. Not Grisham, bit pretty good and different.

Re: Looking for a new author
I would recommend Chuck Palahnuik (sp?). His books are so cool. They aren't really in the same genre as Grisham, but they will make you think. I would start with "Fight Club" and the read "Lullaby".

Yes, my favorite author, most of his books I've read in one sitting because I can't put them down.

Not law related so much, but I can't put a Dean Kontz book down once I start it.
Kinda like Stephen King, only more realistic.

Re: Looking for a new author
i was bought 'wizards first rule' by Terry Goodkind as a present - havent been able to get enough of his books ever since.
Sod all to do with law - completley differnt genre, but worth a look if you dont mind getting into a series of books.

Re: Looking for a new author
I haven't read a book in ages, but every time i got out a Robert Ludlum book I couldn't put it down... He writes awesome books. But hey, i haven't checked out half the authors other people have written here. The Holcroft Covenant by him is great.

Re: Looking for a new author
orson scott card ftw. especially ender's game and the sequels. also theres a series of books called starfist, one of the few militaristic seriesi have ever liked. its about the marines about a thousand years in the future. i read a different novel every two to three days, so i have to know a lot of books.

Re: Looking for a new author
Addictive books/good authors with series:
1: as the above poster reccomended: Orson Scott Card, both his Ender's Game series and the Alvin Maker series (I don't reccomend the Earth series).
2: Isaac Asimov's Foundation (especially the later books) series
3: Terry Pratchett's Discworld series (silly, philosophical, and satirical)
4: Ursula K. LeGuin's Earthsea novels
5: David Edding's Belgarion/Malloreon series.

Re: Looking for a new author
I would recommend the following "author/addictive books/series" (not "law" perse, but....good stuff):
John Sanford "Prey" series
Dennis Lehane
John Patterson
Mark Billingham
