exactly why did we start all the rep points over? I am a decent post-person, got rep points for making thought provoking posts and got em all deleted because of the post whores...I know they are essentially pointless but I kind of liked having them and I gave them fairly as well...I did not use them to suck up as someone once said. I may be silly here but I enjoyed seeing them...actually encouraged me to rack my brain to come up with many more good threads and posts...sorry to whine but I wanted my two cents thrown in.

I personally give rep points to those who are very well deserving for whatever reason. *smiles* I don't think all do so...but it's all in fun... *wink* but I understand you being discouraged... I gave you some rep points for voicing your opinion *wink*

Great question and allow me offer my take on this:

First, I lost more points than anyone, about 6340, and I am quite happy with the reset.

There were many instances of abuse. But first let's define what should get reputation, in my opinion.

First and foremost:

Starting a great thread.
In most cases, only the thread originator should get rep points. I can honestly say the majority of the pic threads I start do not receive any reputation whatsoever. So what? Someone recently posted a link to some great pictures in the Vag. We discourage posting links to porn sites due to virus threats. Someone took the trouble to attach all the pics from that link into the thread. I gave the latter the rep points for the effort. That is pretty much the only time I ever would for a reply to a post. I suppose I would if someone added a great pic to one of the serial threads in the hole, such as the funny pic thread, or the owned thread.

What should not get rep in my opinion:

Word replies to someone elses' thread.
Again, if it weren't for the thread originator, you would have nothing to say on this topic, so why didn't you think of the topic first and start the thread? Most of this abuse was instances of ass kissing. I saw someone in the vag that had never started a single thread with 4 green squares. All he did was comment on people's posts. Some of the thread originators obviously gave him points by kissing butt in hopes he would ass kiss back in return. There were other instances of people with the title "bad mother fucker" and all 11 green squares that had hardly contributed squat other than rep each other for their words.

Asking for rep is bad, and should be awarded with negative rep.

Also, too many points were being given under the old system. Because I have so many posts, (and this is a criterea for how many points are granted), when I gave rep, I gave a bundle! New posters I gave rep too jumped from 1 green sqaure to 6! I was reluctant to hand them out least we all be "bad mother fuckers" in a hurry.

Now, it is harder to get points, and that makes it more fair, more reallistic. They should show who is and who isn't contributing more fairly. If they get abused again, I say reset them again.

Anyone can be a and run their post totals up. Now it is harder to get Stars as well. I just got my 4th Star at 5000 posts. But I am no the majority of my posts have been in the girls pic section with pics!

Thanks, I could offer more instances of abuse of rep points, but that is pointless. Just give them fairly. If you
don't have many anymore, start some great threads, they will come. Just don't expect them to fall like Manna from
Heaven. Again, most of the threads I start in the girls pic section get no rep at all, even though many deserve it. If
you persist, your contributions will be awarded by sheer numbers.

I don't get too concerned with it... but I do see your point on many things...but I can see how it be discouraging for some... *smiles* I enjoyed the post anyway...it's clear that we pretty much think alike on who should and should not receive rep points...*kisses*

Agreed, they are meaningless. But with the way rep is handled now by getting fewer points, they will mean a bit more now. Nothing wrong with recognizing true contributors.

I dunno...I'd be fine if they just take the entire rep point thing away.
They're just for bragging rights, arent they? Usually, I post things because I want to share stuff with other people. It doesn't really matter if I don't get credit for being the OP...because honestly, most of the time im just grabbing links and stuff from other websites and a lot of the times, from friends.

Okay first off, it wasn't a real tantrum I just wondered why? Second, the reason I even said anything is because of the reasons I received them, not what they were. I am not aware of being a postwhore and hope like hell I am not. If I start behaving like one, call me on it.

It was Waldo's call. Instances of abuse and the system was awarding too many points by those of us with lots of posts it appears.
