Man's case re-opened 10 years after execution.

Re: Man's case re-opened 10 years after execution.
It seems rather pointless to reopen a case 25 years after the fact. It makes even less sence when the person that was convicted of the crime was put to death 10 years ago. If what officals are saying now is true, then I would like to see everybody in the original cover-up brought up on charges and made to spend time in prison. I know that it will not change the fact that the wrong person was executed for this crime, but at least some justice will be done in making those people accountable for the execution.

If the wrong man was put to death it makes sense to reopen the case not only to clear his name but also to bring the real killer to justice if possible. Definately one of those cases where the death penalty may have been a huge mistake. I read somewhere that it's believed some overwhelming number (like 15-20% if i remember correctly) of those put to death were actually innocent... anyone else read something along those lines?

I mean it too late and practically pointless to do so at this point.
The only possible reason to prove his innocence now is to clear his name and put his family at ease which will in turn make them mad as that mean he was executed for a crime he didn't commit.
It seems he was put in jail as the police were pressured or something and needed someone in a jail cell so he was the unlucky person to be put there.
If he is found innocent then the family could sue there butts off and I hope they get some money.

I have never seen a number that high. I have seen numbers around 10%.

Wow! Thats very sad isnt it? But although there is nothing that can be done to change this, at least this mans family will have peace of mind knowing his name was cleared.

Put the person(s) guilty of convicting that man and putting him to death to the same punishment.

10% still means one out of every ten executions kills someone who did not commit the crime. Not suggesting they're innocents mind you, just not guilty.

Re: Man's case re-opened 10 years after execution.
I agree that it is important for the family to have his name cleared, even after all this time. But can you imagine how bitter they will be? Not only have they lost a family member, but they have lived with the stigma of his alleged crime for all this time. Some compensation of some sort is definitely in order.

Re: Man's case re-opened 10 years after execution.
Estimates of 15-20% is pretty high... on the other hand, there are also those who believe firmly that only a handful of people who might have been innocent were executed. Fortunately there is a congressional committee who reviews past cases with death sentences to check for the possibility of mistakes. So far, they have found nothing.
