Poll Intel or AMD?

click on one of our sponsors! OR REMOVE ADS
The subject explains it all. What company do you think makes better processors and why? I feel AMD b/c Intel has screwed up BIG time three time recently A) making 64-bit architecture procs not compatible with 32-bit programs, B)Intel 3, I don't need to say any more C) Two different versions of the Pentium 4, the earliest versions of the P4 when they first came out were found to be as bad as many pentium 3s. Also, the supposedly "best" version of the Pentium Extreme Edition (big mistake, the initials spell out PEE :wiggle just barely beats out the rival AMD processor, but cost literally 500$ extra.

Also, Intel has recently admited that how good a processor is does not just depend on the clock speed (how many GHz) but on toher factors as well, which is somethign AMD has caught onto a long time ago by adding in bigger Level 1 and 2 caches. (some intels have a level 3 cahce, but they are so far away from the processor it doesn't really do much help at all)

AMD is a good brand, I'm using an AMD 3000+, runs great. I personally go with AMD over Intel, even though I have a P4 computer too. I'd just go with whatever is more reliable.. to me that seems like AMD.

Re: Intel or AMD?

I like AMDs, cheaper, use less power, and actually have new ideas about processors. Now I know Intel does aswell.. but some of there latest Pentium IVs.. all they did is up the power so that inturn increases the speed and increases the heat coming from the chip. I think it is up to something like 125 watts to run the CPU.

Re: Intel or AMD?

well, that is the same actually for AMD 64 proccessors, they take up at least 100W, but it stays relatively cool even with the stock heatsink/fan it runs at no more than 50C even at high temp. I've seen P4s beyond that, but then again, I haven't had a Pentium ever since I bought my first AMD, which was just sooo much better.

Re: Intel or AMD?

I stick with Intel. I have used AMD in the past, but my biggest beef with them is chipsets. I had nothing but problems with my VIA chipset back when I had my Athlon 1700+. Random crashes. Sound not working right. NIC hogging the CPU. Plus I can see the advantages to hyper-threading. I am not loyal to Intel by any stretch. I used to by all about NVidia until the Radeon 9700 series came out and just crushed the GeForce. Now I say woever offers the best, trouble-free perfromance wins!

Re: Intel or AMD?

Athlon has come a long way. These days it is the ONLY thing I put in my computers.

Re: Intel or AMD?

I'm a fan of both...Intel at work an AMD at home. Only thing I have really noticed is that AMD runs a little hotter...

Re: Intel or AMD?

I am an AMD man myself. I do have an Intel processor at work but that's not by choice. I'm on about my 5th gen of my computer (personal built) and each time I do the comparisons and AMD always comes out on top for me.

Re: Intel or AMD?

Yes, the thing that AMD whoops butt in comparison no matter what to Intel is price. AMD chips are cheaper, but they sure as heck aren't weaker.

Re: Intel or AMD?

Its like this, sure you can have phat rig with a xp3200,or a P4 3.4HT. benchmarks say this, that and the other. Both are top of the line. side by side you would like the intel chip better. I have seen it all and the intel vs AMD in front of your face is better than bench scores or sete marks.

Re: Intel or AMD?

Well my AMD system at home and my Intel system at work are considered equals but I will tell you my system at home definately out performs my system at work.
