please someone help me, i downloaded many videos, some ranging 100mb's but quicktime and WMP wont play them, i downloaded DivX but no matter wher ei download it from, it only installs the codec and never the player. am i doing something wrong?

You most likely do not have the correct codec installed. Try a codec pack like Nimo or Ace Mega Codec pack. They install every codec you could ever need and I believe they come with some video players as well (if you do not like wmp).
