Nope, prettiest place in the world is Australia. Trust me. Just make sure you see more of the country then just Sydney...

Re: Going to Austrailia in June

Hey people...there is more to Australia than just Sydney!

Sydney is the 'unofficial' capital of Australia - everyone seems to think that Sydney is the most happening place in Australia (at least the people who live there would like to think so).

I am of course biased, being from Melbourne, but Melbourne was voted the most liveable city in the world for a reason - it has a lot more to offer than Sydney does.

Don't get me wrong, Sydney is a great city - but it is way to busy for my tastes. I like a more relaxed life-style.

I would suggest if you were coming here for the first time, you should experience more of Australia than just the big cities. Our country is huge and has many beautiful landmarks (such as Uluru (Ayers Rock)), Kakadu, Katherine Gorge and the Great Ocean Road. All of these places are beautiful and would be much more fulfilling than the big cities.

If you have to go to a 'city' though, I would suggest that you go to southern Queensland - from the Gold Coast north to the Sunshine Coast. This area is far more indicative of what the Australian lifestyle is like than the cosmopolitan impulse of the big cities.

All in all though, once you come here you won't be disappointed. Just be sure to venture outside of the city. If you are set on going to Sydney - travel. Get to Coffs Harbour, Port Macquarie and Newcastle - see the country: it's beautiful.

Cheers,

:wiggle:

Re: Going to Austrailia in June

If you go to Australia you should also go to some island. Fraser Island for me is the best, but also Moreton is nice. You can catch a bus from Sydney and do all the east-coast for cheap. You can get on and get off the bus whenever you wanna and see many things. If you stop to Brisbane don't miss the "Down Under Bar" !!

Re: Going to Austrailia in June

I have spent a fair amount of time in Australia and do yourself a favor travel north from Sydney, don't know if you surf but there are TONS of small little surf towns that are a blast and really nice b/c they are off the beaten path. Just explore...

Re: Going to Austrailia in June

In my recent trips to OZ I would say some of the cool things are:
1. Bridge Climb. It’s a fairly unique experience but it was kind of pricey when I did it $175
2. The Establishment Bar is a place that I usually visit with customers. Upscale and crowded
3. Cafe Sydney has a pretty good view.
4. Their is a bar and restaurant at the top of the Shangra-La hotel that serves good cocktails and has a phenomenal view.
5. Bondi beach is close and pretty cool.

Sydney has lost about 1000 hotel rooms in the past couple of years so if you are looking for nice hotel accommodations you'll want to book the hotel pretty far in advance.

If you are flying Qantas you can get a layover for a couple of days in Auckland on the way back. Auckland isn't the prettiest City in New Zealand but it would be definitely worth it to visit for a day or two.
