New Dual Disc format?
Ok, I went to get the new Ben Folds album (which completely fuckin rocks, btw) and the new Bruce Springsteen one, and they were both on the newfangled DualDisc format. What do you all think of that? Is it just a gimmick to get people to buy instead of download or is it actually a valuable thing?
Personally, I'm kind of split because if it's an artist I want to hear bad enough, I will buy the CD anyway (plus, I like the liner notes... Im a music dork haha), so it seems sort of like an unnecessary gimmick to me.
Any thoughts?

Re: New Dual Disc format?
I think its a gimmick just like anything else to get you to buy.. most of the time they also release a single disc copy as well.. So it all depends on how much of a collectibility, or what is actually on the second disc that will make me buy it..
And you stumbled on another good point.. If i like the people i will buy their albumn instead of downloading it.. as i also enjoy the artwork and liner notes that come with it. Its also my way of supporting the band.

Re: New Dual Disc format?
Of course it's a gimmick. Everything is a gimmick in the recording industry (among others). However, it is appealing to get a little more bang for your buck: 5.1 mixed album for surround sound, interviews, etc. I've heard of some people having problems playing them in certain CD players. Well, I had trouble loading and ejecting the disc outta my car stereo because the disc is so freakin' thick, but unlike some reviews I have read on Amazon.com, all of my DualDiscs play just fine in my computer. So far I have Bruce Springsteen & Rob Thomas DualDiscs. They play fine. I was gonna get Ben Folds' DualDisc but got his collector's edition "Songs for Silverman" instead of the DD. The CE has the DVD & CD as separate discs due to the fact that the DVD is a full 45-min. documentary (which was abridged for the DD). The thing that pissed me off about the CE was that the DVD did not include the 5.1 mix of the album or the bonus track ("Landed" with strings). I'm assuming they did this to encourage people to buy both the DD & the CE. Money grubbing scum. But on a good note, I enjoyed the music. Anyway, I've rattled on enough. Ultimately, yes, it's another dying effort for the record industry to stay alive amidst all of the file sharing. Is it gonna change much? No.The kinds of people that get into that "special features" like additions that are provided with DD are the kind of people that probably buy CDs anyway.

Re: New Dual Disc format?
Specifics please... is it SACD (Super Audio CD) or DVD-Audio? Or just a mixed 5.1 CD/DVD?
Cause SACD and DVD-A are no joke! Those formats are fucking unbelievable.

Re: New Dual Disc format?
DualDisc is just 5.1 mixed surround sound. Not up to snuff when ranked by SACD.
