Re: Moral Values in America

I never said that anybody was pushing anythiing on me and i dont want to shove anything down others throats. Also i did say that a majority of parents can control their kids. I was just stating an opinion of some that they do get upset with the type of stuff on t.v. such as commercials being to racy. An example is the T.O. and Desperate Housewives thing. Parents let their kids watch the game and then all of a sudden there is sex right in front of them. I dont agree with the govt stepping in and trying to control things like what happens in the privacy of your own bedroom or any law that tries to force morals on to people but again whats wrong with having morals in this time and age? I think alot of people want some morals in this nation because of the way that they voted in the last election, did you see all that red across the nation?

Re: Moral Values in America

Morals are a lot to do with self worth......if you don't value yourself, or by extension your society, then it is quite legitamate to do unto others as you would have them do unto you....ie.....screw the lot of them.

While values, as such are dictated by external systems, legal, religious, cultural, habitual social customs, them to a greater or less degree individuals will always "buy into" the prevailing flavour of ethic and moral code.

Where however people are ruled by internal checks and measures based on their own intrinsic worth as human beings, then to accept a or reject a code forced upon them is going to be determined by the degree of "fit" with their internal measuring stick.
Formalising the code is usually coupled with exerting of power and control of one individual or organisation over another group....and that subjugation is "Not Moral"???
