Re: Ever Have your car stolen?

My friend had her stolen a long time ago. The thieves took it from her driveway. They never found out who did it, but did find the car. In the river near her house. They had ripped the cd player out, totally tore up the inside and put oil all over it. She still has the news paper clipping. Two kids found it while swimming. Silver lining? If this is considered one--She got a new car with the money from her insurance...

Re: Ever Have your car stolen?

A buddy of mine had his stolen, twice in the same year. Same car, too. It was this 1980-some odd shit box that basically consisted of 8 or 9 loosely connected rust molecules held together by some duct tape, bondo, and spray paint. Both times that it was stolen, the thieves stole the stereo and then brought the car back! It sucked at the time, but looking back on it, that was hilarious.

Re: Ever Have your car stolen?

I live about 15 minutes from mexico so by the time you realize your car is stolen chances are it is already long gone. A guy I knew found his down in mexico after it got stolen, but it was totally stripped.A lot of the cars that get stolen down here arent seen again though unfortunately

Re: Ever Have your car stolen?

IF or should I say when your insurance company screws you on the claim, I would add some items of value to the car, tools, laptop etc. This will only work if you have full coverage though.

My dads was stolen a few years back. It was eventually found, i think it was like 2 weeks later. Guy got pulled over the next state over for drunk driving and then they ran the plates and liscense.

Thing is, it wasnt even running that day(bad battery) Thats why it was at the house. So he had to go get a battery before he could steal it!

Re: Ever Have your car stolen?

my uncles Toyota 4Runner was stolen about 2 months after he had bought it from the dealership... really sucked, and then my older car had been broken into 3 times once it was so bad that it was at the body shop for about 2 weeks to try to rewire everything and fix all the dents in the car..

I really hate thieves... people with no respect for others that work really hard for all their belongings.. recently on a local forum I post a "friend" of the people was caught red handed trying to take a Honda Civic from a Local college, and he admited to many other civic thefts.. of board members ofcourse

Re: Ever Have your car stolen?

My integra was stolen when i was at a buddies house the night before 3 of my finals. I was there studying with him, fell asleep there and the guy stole my car with the help of a gizmo. My insurance company showed me a video on it but you can buy this like little box thing on the black market that sends out a bunch of high pitch frequencies towards your car after you click a button. When the right frequency is picked up from your cars alarm system, it bounces back to the box and then a green light, lights up and all he has to do is click another button which then disables and unlocks your car. It may sound bogus to anyone that hasnt heard of this but its a real thing and its crazy how easy it works on practically any alarm system. anyways my car was jacked with that method and the guy stole my spoons, my cd deck and my cf hood as well as some aftermarket engine parts. He also fucked up my shocks and exhaust, im guessing he was driving really fast and hit a pot hole or something cause the exhaust mid pipe snapped in the middle and the car was bottomed out. They found it in an alley on cinderblocks within the day i reported it. It was not pretty, i guess the plus is i got my car back but its not even close to the car it was before.

Re: Ever Have your car stolen?

My first car was stolen from outside my mothers house, i was gutted!! As luck would have it a friend had seen the local "rougue" travelling the opposite way to him in my car the night before, he'd actually come to advise me not to lend my car to him in future as he was thrashing the pants off it. I'd gone to school with the scumbag and knew where he lived so it didn't take long to find....parked on the road behind his house!! I called the police and told them i'd found it and there was only light damage to the nsf bumper and wing, they were told about the witness seeing the scumbag in my car but they weren't interested.

A couple of weeks passed and i was driving around my local town centre one evening with my girlfriend (northampton uk) and while sat at traffic lights my door opened and i was dragged from the car, punced a couple of times and the bundled down the side of a nearby pub. I found myself in the back rooms of the pub, then led to an office, sat behind the desk was a guy everyone knew, he owned a couple of pubs/nightclubs in the town, he ran the security on EVERY pub door in the town, the rumour was he also controlled the drug/hooker side of things. All in all NOT the kind of bloke you need to be on the wrong side of..(he also represented the uk in kickboxing) 6ft 6"+ and built like a house. I was only 17 yrs old, i was that scared inearly pissed my pants!!

Anyway, it turned out my car had been seen crashing into his brand new 7 series bmw and driving off! I explained i'd had my car stolen but i knew who'd stolen it, i was then "escorted" out to his car and told to take them to where this guy lived, and warned if i was telling lies...............................

When the scumbag opened his front door and saw who was there he tried to slam the door and ran through his house and out the back door. It struck me as strange that neither of the two "heavies" tried to run after him but his actions confirmed my story. We got back to the pub where my girlfriend was in the middle of a nervous breakdown. No apologies were given to me but i was told be back the next day before 3pm, and no later. That night i never slept, thinking about what would happen if i didn't go, and why did i have to go back? I finally concluded that i was going to witness a beating the following day......WRONG!!!!

I turned up the following day, was handed the keys to a hire car and my car was taken away, returned to me 3 days later with new bonnet/bumper etc, fully resprayed and valleted!!

Also whenever i went into any of this guys pubs/clubs over the following couple of years i never paid for any drinks, nobody ever said anything to me like "drinks are on the house" but as soon as i went to the bar i'd get served, the barmaid would just pass the drinks over and move on to the next punter.

I never did find out what happened to the scumbag who nicked my car, but i was really happy he hit the car he did!!!

Re: Ever Have your car stolen?

How does insurance work when a car gets stolen? Does it pay for the value of the car new? Or the value of it at the time? What's the deal?

Re: Ever Have your car stolen?

First the story. My father called me one moring about 6:30 to ask if I borrowed his car. When I said no, he said he would need to call me back and he called the police. They found the car in a chop shop getting ready to become parts. The car was fine after a new window and steering column.

Call your insurance company. Chances are your car is getting joyriddn' and then will end up totaled. One thing with the insurance. If you take the check, the car (if recovered) is theirs not yours. So see how long you can live without a perminant replacement.

Re: Ever Have your car stolen?

I never had mine stolen.
Funny story though, back when my Mom was younger, she had parked her car at work. Someone else had the same exact car, and they let someone go out and use their car. My mothers car and their car had the same locks, so they other cars key worked. She initially thought it was stolen, but he came back with it later.

Re: Ever Have your car stolen?

I don't drive, I'm a bicycle commuter. But I have had two bikes stolen. Of course they were never recovered. They were probably painted or on their way to another city by the time I discovered the busted locks.

I was on a trial last year (jury duty) and while screening jurors the judge asked if any of us ever had our cars stolen. Nearly everyone in a room of about 45 people raised their hands.

Sorry to hear about your car. I hate thieves. I guess they think we go to work every day so they'll have something to steal.
