My girlfriend and I have sex a lot, we use the condom 90% of the time and if we don't, I'll pull out before climax (not very safe). She's been on birth control for a while and quit for two weeks then started back up again. The day she started, she felt pain and bloating in her stomach. What could it be? The side effects of pregnancy and birth control are similar. Any advice apart from seeing a doctor?

quitting birth control for two weeks can definitely make a woman fertile again. When was her last period? How long after her last period was it that you had sex?

Generally (and I'm REALLY generalizing here) a woman's menstrual cycle will leave her fertile only a few days out of the month. This day is 2 weeks after her period, plus or minus anywhere from 1 day all the way up to a week or more (so some women are fertile for just day 14, others can be fertile anywhere from day 7 all the way through day 21). It is likely that your girlfriend is normal (statistically, that is). If you didn't have unprotected sex 2 weeks after her period (and a few days before and after that day), chances are that she is NOT pregnant. This is NOT gauranteed at all, but the chances statiscally are lower.

Now that I've spewed out everything I can remember from my human reproductive and sexual behavoir class in college, I can offer one peice of advice: go see a doctor. If you want to avoid a doctor, go here:

If she missed a period, or she's close to when she should start her next period, there are pregnancy tests she can take that will tell her (even before a missed period).

Last but not least, don't let her drink or smoke until she knows for sure.

Oh yeah- if it wasn't obvious, my advice was to test for her being pregnant. It's possible that the birth control could be causing her pain and bloating, but I'd be safe and find out for sure.

Well, the weird thing was, the birth control made her bleed off and on for 2-3 weeks after that she stopped and we probably had sex. This birth control is creating havoc on her body and I'm trying to get her to go see a doctor, but she's stubborn

You "probably had sex"??? And if the pill is creating havoc with her body, perhaps it's because she isn't taking it correctly....how long has she been on it?

The bloating and what not could be from starting and stopping and since the pill mimics pregnancy you can sometimes get the nausea and bloating and dizziness (especially in the a.m.) I had this happen to me and i had to switch from taking it in the a.m. to the p.m. and finally had to switch birth controls altogether. Some can make you very hormonal, et cetera...Have her go to her doctor for a test and to get her pill situation straightened out.

Ok, it turned out to be a mix of the birth control reacting with antibiotics and the fact she is a "weirdo" as the doctor put it. So, we're on to a different type of bc.
