I originally wanted to join the army and am actually in the ROTC program and participating in something called Ranger Challenge right now. But this article and many stories like it is just fucked, and the army fucks you over. period.

Re: Why I won't Join the army

i guess i can understand that a little, but if a company had overpaid someone they would have wanted their money back also, and if he had things missing that he should have turned in? sounds a little weird to me like he was trying to walk off with some things, i do not try to act like i know how the military works, but i let them work there own problems out because the biggest thing the military doesn't need is civilians trying to put an army to civilian standards, some things have to be done the way things are done in there and they pretty much know how to do this

and there were only 15 such cases like that including him? doesn't really sound like the army is trying to screw anyone, might just be mistakes. from most military buddies i know the army tries to take care of their soldiers first and foremost

That's disgusting. Making HIM pay for travel expenses? He wouldn't have been traveling if it wasn't something they were making him do! Are you kidding me?!

Re: Why I won't Join the army

Eh i couldn't join the army because i'm not that great at following rules and regulations....Then again, neither is the Army, at times.

I'd also probably be very trigger happy and shoot the shit outta everything i could. I think it would be a great time to bond during basic training with a bunch of people, but i couldn't do it long-term; just doesn't mesh with my personality. Perhaps if i had two lives to live i'd join, but since I just have this one I'll stay out of the Army/Marines/Navy/Air Force.

However, i think it's messed up what happened to this man and hopefully it will be rectified. He's from Middletown, as are many of my good friends, which i found cool...Ah well...

AMH, let's start our own army. We need to start breeding the soldiers right now!

This guy should be getting paid not only his paycheck, but 100% disability. The man lost his arm fighting for our country. If the Army's going to try to swindle him out of his deserved funding, who else would they try to rob from?

His wife is an idiot

He lost an arm, he wont be recalled.

This all sounds like a paper work glitch. Anyone with any common sense in the army would know this would be really bad PR. Like one of them said a bureaucrat is probably to blame.

Re: Why I won't Join the army

That article makes me awfully happy about the fact that I can't join the Army, even if I wanted to. Not the Navy, the Marines, the Air Force...nobody. They simply won't have me.
See, when I was thirteen years old, I was busy being a stupid kid and accidentally (a opposed to intentionally, I guess) slipped on a frozen pond and demolished my left elbow. Like, the "floating bone shards and a four-piece humerous" kind of demolished.
Eighteen screws, A sliver transplanted from my hip, two surgical steel plates, and two MORE surgical steel plates, twice as thick, to replace the first set which I busted six months in to my recouperation, I had moved far enough into the land of the bionic that the Armed Forces would have absolutely no part of me.
I'm not even suitable for a draft (he says, grinning like the Cheshire Cat).

Ironically, I found out this fact one day before I was to be sworn in to the Navy at the tender, confused age of eighteen, having gone through all the physicals, all the testing, all the aptitude examinations.

In retrospect, though, that technicality was probably a very, very good thing, as I don't expect that I would have much enjoyed the recruit's life, nor, I realize now, would it have enjoyed me.

What I meant by how there are way more cases like that is not as in specifically like that, but in how the military has completly fucked over their soldiers after they leave the army. In ROTC they keep telling me "people first" and treat me all nice offering me scholarships, money, and benefits you greatly enjoy throughout a military career. The army basically treats it troops real well, as long as they are considering joining or in the army, but once they are out: its GOODBYE. Case in point (or is it Point in case? i'm confused now) http://washingtontimes.com/upi-brea...21848-6449r.htm Would that be a beaurocratic fuck up? that's all I gotta say...

Re: Why I won't Join the army

Paperwork glitch. It happens alot, the Army is decades behind paperwork submital.

For those who don't know, I work for the Army as a Civilian. Lately, the Army has been becoming more "stingy" with their per diem, and travel reimbursement. But that's besides the point.

When we go on TDY (temporary duty) if we stay longer than 30 days, we get reduced per diem (55% of actual). A friend of mine didn't know about this when he was filling out his travel orders and they were actually accepted and signed byhis supervisor, the budget analyst and the other person (title escapes me). When he returned home, it turns out he owed over 8K for his TDY in Construction Operations in Arizona (same deal I have here in LV). After notices to collect and actual threats to garnish his salary, they just let him slide on it and he didn't pay anything back.

A few months ago, I went TDY to Kansas City for training. My orders werent approved by the BA and were declined, nobody told me it had to be approved by 3 people, and I saw 2 had approved it and assumed it was good. When I got to the airport, they had no payment for flight, my government credit card (issued a few days before but not authorized to use because the bitch at RMO is a lazy cunt) was declined, so I used my own cash for the ticket (~$607.10, I couldnt get the Gov
t rate on the card). So I did the whole week, came back and figured it take a few days to get my $ back. It took over 2 months; fags. I literally had to get in peoples faces for them to do their GOD DAMMNED jobs. They think getting paid 100K and doing 2 hours of work a day is enough...assholes.

Later after receiving payment, I got my orders returned again for lack of signatures. I was pissed, since I had already payed back the hotel bill on the gov't credit card, and the plane ticket on mine. I talked to the lazy ass involved and she said to give the money back in a check and she would look up where to send it to I replied (verbatim) "I've used my money in the past to pay for your mistakes, I will not do it again" She tried to get snippy with me and said they will issue a notice to collect and garnish my salary. I replied (verbatim) "if John didn't have to pay them back the $8,000 he owed for his mistake, I don't think I should pay back $1100 for YOUR mistake. Find a way to get this resolved, you have done it for others before."

It pissed her off pretty bad. They called my advisor and me in for a meeting with the manager ot the program I'm in. He said it wasn't "my place" to speak directly with her and that I should follow the chain of comand. I laughed and said "I would, if the lowers knew what they were doing. Every time I email my advisor, he forwards it to the higher ups and CC's me on it; I can do that myself."

Assholes, now every time a little something goes wrong, they make sure they fix it fast for me, because I will make them look like douchebags
