Ya! Shame on Bergs for bringing that,... that nasty bible up!
I have a couple questions though.
Ever have a car & look at the owners manual in the glove box? Sure helps. Ever look at the owners manual for your pc? Sure helps. Would you take your car to a repair shop that refused to look at factory service manuals? At least not twice. I think you get the idea. Leaving all the writings about "religion" & heaven & hell, being "saved" etc. completely out of it, consider the bible as an owners manual for humans. Nobody is forcing you to read it or follow it's suggestions for life. That would be slavery & we all have a free will.
However, please consider this. It's filled with medical information to keep you healthy & living a disease free, long life. If someone promised you that you would never be sick or suffer normal human ailments, wouldn't you at least want to know how? It doesn't mean you have to follow their advice. Most of the people recorded in Genesis lived to be several hundred years old. The richest people in the world have followed biblical principals, (whether they knew it or not). The largest most successful organization in the world (Christianity) was founded & grew, by following the book of acts. 3/4 of the bible is about money & how to use it wisely, yet students worldwide spend millions of dollars on economic classes.
The only man besides Jesus to walk on water did so by listing & obeying Jesus. The only two men in history to be dead for three days & then come back to life, completely whole & undamaged, followed biblical principals. That alone should warrant a bit of curiosity.
Everybody wants to stay young, look young & live forever. Most people want to get rich. As we all know, the average life span is now less that 80 years, but doesn't the promise of walking streets, where the pavement is
gold & the walls are are precious jewels, eternally (as in FOREVER) at least make you wonder?
Great people (in life) act on wonderment & take risks. They are the people who aren't satisfied with the status quo & "Go for it". Then again, some people live uneventful lives & say "bah humbug" at every idea that's not their own. Reading a bible from a pure secular point of view, never hurt anybody, but rejecting knowledge has caused a lot of grief.
This is in no way intended to preach Jesus, church or getting "saved" at anyone, just to consider the other merits of reading an owners manual designed to make humans happy & successful. But then again, the season is approaching for saying "Bah Humbug", so why not get an early start?
