That is true but these polls have millions of votes. Also it was said by every news station today that Kerry did infact win the debate. The debate did prove more worthy than many have said it would be...The race is now down to 3%, it was ata 9% lead a month ago, and a 6% lead 2 weeks ago. Kerry is closing the gap...I'm not saying he is necessarily going to win, but what I am saying is that Bush must do much better in the next 2 debates and hope tht Kerry does nto so as well.

Disclaimer: I'm hard-core behind Kerry, and as such, I feel I should be able to criticize his performance as well.

While Bush did a piss-poor job of being articulate and... well... NOT a bumbling bafoon, I think that Kerry was no saint himself. Kerry mentioned his nuclear arms proliferation plan with regards ro Russia. He stated that he would find all of the armament in 4 years, and Bush would not have it done for another 13 years. He stated this fact FOUR times during the debate, and probably wasted > 2-3 minutes on it that could have been used to delve further into the subject and actually tell us HOW he would do it differently. I felt that while he was more articulate and had better ideas (my opinion), he didn't struggle by using filler words (or a dumb look and silence)- he struggled by repeating ideas too often.

I want Kerry to do a great job, and while I think he won this debate, I think he could have done a much better job. I don't think Kerry won the debate, I think GW LOST the debate.

Re: So the first debate is over...What do you think?

I watched a debate expert (??) in an interview talk about how if you watch debates with no sound, usually the person who won the debate on mute won in reality, too.

I don't know how Bush supporters could consider him coming close, much less winning. Kerry maintained his composure (other than some cheese smiles), answered questions (albeit sometimes not as effectively as he could have), and delivered his message (as much as possible in 30-120 second intervals).

GW seemed get agitated and had a look [that I can best compare to that on Jack Nicholson's face in 'A Few Good Men' as he's being questioned in court] of utter disdain. It was as if he could not believe that anyone HAD THE AUDACITY to question the President of the United States. He seemed very angry, lost his train of thought multiple times, avoided questions, appeared lost, and continued to repeat his tag lines.

Oh, and "don't forget Poland!"

I think his face says it all: A sound victory for Kerry. I only hope that Kerry continues to come well prepared and doesn't get over confident in the next debate. Bushies should just chalk it up as a learning experience and make the necessary adjustments.

Next debate should be quite interesting.
