You forget that people are different, even soldiers.

My brother has a friend that re-upped for 4 more years, a medic in the army, he came by the other day. Signed up to get assinged to a recon type group. Up front.

I asked him "Who are you voting for?"

I got "Bush, Kerry is a weenie and has no idea whats going on over there."

Ok, as you said, people are different. Two of my best friends in the world are both military, as I said, one just got back. He was at Baghdad Airport. He is voting Kerry. "Bush is leading people in a worthless cause."

Re: What scares you about George Dubya?

I just thought of something else. As much as these Islamic extremist fanatics are using Allah's name to gain acceptance, Bush is using God's name to gain votes. People forget that Church and State are to be seperate, and for good reason. Politics and Religion are two of the most heated debates in the world... when you mix them together, that's just bad juju. (Not jewjew for you anti-semitists)

Re: What scares you about George Dubya?

If you think about, tactics countries would use to protect their vital installations is to surround it with civilian buildings. The Germans did it during WWII with their factories and the Iraqies did it. News agencies are going to put every errant bomb on the front page or top story because people concentrate more on the bad news than good news.
We should be thanking God that we have the weapons we have today, because if you think these GPRS bombs were bad you would not believe what devestation would happen if it was a flight of B-52's with a full complement of dumb bombs. No weapon is 100% effective and I think judgement should wait till all the information on the % of bombs hitting their targets are offically released.
The biggest problem that I see with what is happening in Iraq is that alot of mistakes that happened in Vietnam is happening here when it comes to US soldiers unable to do what they have to do effectivly due to minimising collateral damage to the country. I believe that getting rid of Saddam was right (even though the reasons are still very debatable) and I am going to vote for Bush because I believe he is the best choice both for home issues and finishing what has to be done in Iraq.
I'm not going to bother with anything religious because that has nothing to do with this thread. My vote deals with his policies, not using God's name.

Re: What scares you about George Dubya?

But, the WHOLE city? There wouldn't have been hundreds of tactical bombs sites in a city. Baghdad is full of civilians. Civilian buildings were hit.

George Bush and Co.'s singleminded determination.

He is convinced that he is infallible and that leads him to look at things in black and white; as if you're wrong if you don't agree with him. "If you're not with us, you're against us."

I was recently forwarded a link that presented some interesting information. As with all information, it is merely presented as is and is left for you to use and/or interpret as you will.

Wow. Rep points for that shiznit. Scary stuff, isn't it? I've often wondered about particular events with that idea, but I've not articulated it like that.

Re: What scares you about George Dubya?

I personally find it sad when so many Americans are so quick (and happy) to compare the United States government to a fascist regime.

Sad. And so wrong. But mostly sad.

Re: What scares you about George Dubya?

Not wrong. True. As Americans, we are only upholding our American duty. Those are some scary facts. There is nothing wrong with diliking the current governmental administration. That's how this country was started, that's why we were given the rights to have an opinion on the matter. The Bush administration is killing this country, and it's scary that people are not only allowing it, but encouraging it.

Re: What scares you about George Dubya?

There is definitely nothing wrong with disliking the current administration... but to compare them to fascists? Come on.

Re: What scares you about George Dubya?

Well, if the comparison fits..... the administration lies to the people, they use on particular event to scare the shit ou of the people. Have you read 1984? There's a good reason it was taken out of schools.... the corellation is uncanny! We are lied to on a daily basis, human rights WERE taken away by the war in Iraq, we have been told that we would be getting propaganda from the media BY the government..... and you don't believe that the accusation can seemingly fit?

Re: What scares you about George Dubya?

The great part about America is that we as citizens can present that material for the public to view and allow each person to draw his/her own conclusions.
I'm not saying that we live under a fascist regime, but doesn't it scare you at all that we share so many characteristics with regimes that we hold to be historically deplorable and 'evil'?

I cannot believe that this administration has gotten an almost free pass to do as it wishes. I don't think anyone will confuse Dubya's administration of being fiscally conservative or for less government. John Ashcroft's singleminded pursuit of the federal death penalty (especially in states that don't have the death penalty), as well as efforts to take away the voter-approved medicinal marijuana rights in many states and Oregon's assisted suicide law are a clear strike against states' rights.

Yet Bush is able to deflect his failures and deficiencies in a cloud of questions about 30-yr old events. How can there be a call for Dan Rather to retire for using information that, upon more considered review, turned out to be false? He was bringing the news to television viewers. America's sons and daughters are fighting in Iraq based on false information and we're talking about giving the guy that brought us there another 4 years to lead us so decisively?
