Seeking Advice: Motorcycles
Background info:
My wife was in a car accident and her car was totaled by someone who ran a red light. After surgery and a year of recovery she is going back to work. The problem is we only have one car and our work schedules conflict.
Current Situatuion:
I work 5 minutes from home. I travel on 80% residential streets to get to work. I can ride motox bikes and atvs. I am considering buying a motorcycle until I can afford to buy her another car. Since she just started work money is kind of tight so I cannot spend a lot. I just need something to get to work and back, that's it. This would not be a fun weekend bike. I live in southern California so I do not have to worry about the weather.
What would you reccomend? What kind of motorcylce? What about scooters? Thanks for the help. I am not sure where to start.

Re: Seeking Advice: Motorcycles
go to
http://www.msf-usa.org/
and sign up for a class. for a first bike, i suggest something older and smaller engine size 600cc or less. since you are close to work, a scooter wouldn't be a bad idea either. go to www.cycletrader.com and look around for prices and bikes/scooters in your area. also, the good folks at www.sportbikes.net will be happy to help you. just go to the forums and do a search or post your question/needs. good luck and be safe.

Re: Seeking Advice: Motorcycles
I think it depends on what you like. Is it a first bike? Have you EVER ridden before? If it is a first, look at a scooter or a low cc bike like a 600. If you have some experience and are looking to get a bike, decide what you like and how much you want to pay. Do you like crotch rockets, or do you prefer road bikes? From what you are describing, I would just stick with a low class cc bike, even a dirt bike in the 250cc range.

What ever you decide to get, don't forget to wear the right gear, and treat all other road users as morons, its a good way of self preservation
