Re: The Country You Live In...
Getting back on topic... Born in the UK but would never go back... UK has the best social life EVER - greatest nightclubs and excellent spirit out on the town but way too overpopulated and too much of a rat race...
Moved to Canada and LOVE it!!! Love the land, the people, great for raising kids without prejudice and instilling tolerance!!

Re: The Country You Live In...
I am quite content living here in the USA. I have never even visited another country, so I really can't say that I would like some other country more. Being from immigrant parents, I have heard about how much better the US is in terms of freedom, so I don't really know if I want to live anywhere else.
But I would definitely like to visit some other countries!

Most of the Australians I have met indicate they think America is a land of idiots and would prefer they stopped Americanising Australia, let alone moving to America.
I like where I live, it's clean, people rarely shoot each other, and the cost of living is affordable. Of course our politicians are idiots and our taxes on luxury items (which includes books) are astounding sometimes.

In that case, most of the Aussies youi have met are ignorant. You can't base a whole country on how retarded their government is. Not everyone in the US is an arrogant bully. To look at any country as a land of idiots is ignorant, and retarded. And how is it, exactly, that Australia ia being Americanized? The US and Australia have exactly the same roots. We also h ave similar histories with the natives, however, Australia's "genocide" is much more recent. I like everything I know about Australia, including the culture, wildlife, and people. Grow up.

He's not saying its one state, or several states, its the fact that EACH vote doesn't count.
A President can win the election if you base it on POPULAR vote, which is adding up each INDIVIDUAL vote. But, just because the popular vote swings that way, doesn't mean the electoral college will. THe electoral vote could go the other way. So, how is that fair that the majority of the United STATES voted one way, and the electoral college count gives credit to another person.
Your vote really only matters if you live in a dense populated area. If your in a rural community, your vote has much less power.

Serious nationalist eh? Bah ... I won't even get into it. Seems to me it would be rather pointless.
If a person has never lived outside their home country, I would think the answer would be fairly obvious. They'd prefer to live in their country that they grew up in and understand completely.
I've traveled quite a bit but I'm not naive enough to think that I would know what i'ts like to live in another country based on my visits. I've also lived in 4 different countries and IMO, nothing beats my home, the US of A. It's the culture that I've been exposed to most of my life so it's the culture I'm comfortable with. It's also a pretty beautiful country with a lot to offer.
Am I happy with my country? Thats tough to answer and extremly complex. Keeping it simple, I love my country completely even though at times I do not agree with it's policies or government.

Who wins the presidency is based not on the majority of voters but rather the majority of states. Your vote does count, but not for your choice of president but rather the choice of your state for president. It's for good reason and it's not rocket science.
Your vote doesn't weigh any better or worse where you live, but it does force the candidates take issue with a wider range voters. Otherwise they would never leave the cities knowing the rural areas will just end up plus or minus a percentage point or so.
What is a piss off, is to hear educated politicians like hillary clinton make stupid ass comments when they themselves know damn straight how, why and the merits of the system.

I like living in the U.S., however, that just makes me even more frustrated with the programs that our government decides to pursue. We shouldn't decie to randomly attack a nation and then fabricate false reasons for our invasion.
If i could live anywhere else, it would have to be italy, ive visited twice and cant wait to go a third.

Well put, Bill. I was trying to explain the purpose of the electoral college to someone the other day and I had to try to do it in many more words than you did. It helps to understand that the US is a republic.

What would I know, I was just born and live here. Pretty much everyone I know is Australian funnily enough.
Australia has nothing like the roots of the Americas, we've never had a civil war, we don't have a culture based on national patriotism, we don't have a large standing army that throws its weight around under the guise of world politics, we don't have anywhere near the industrial or population base of America. We were ofunded as a prison colony and are still a republic of England. Other than being an industrialised 1st world, "western" if you will, country, where are our roots similar ?
If you like, I can wander down the main shopping strip of Melbourne and take a photo of all the Starbucks for you.

I think he was referring to the facts that both of our countries began as colonial interests of the British Empire of the time, both our nations had similar issues with the indigineous populations of our respective lands, and both our nations had, and still have, strong ties to our mother country, England. Also, most of the ruling class populations of both our nations are of Anglo-Saxon and/or other Western European origin.
So, yeh, the roots ARE similar; where our countries have each grown from those roots is what makes each nation unique.
