Strange divorce laws?
With divorce prominent in our society, there has to be some relatively strange laws about divorce used in our family court systems. Does your state have anything you think is unusual during divorce proceedings??
Here's my strange thing from South Carolina: you are allowed a "quick" divorce in thirty days if the other spouse was abusive to you or was found by the court to be guilty of adultery. Pretty much anything else requires a minimum of one year of separation before the official filing of divorce can proceed.
What strange stories do y'all have or have heard about?

Re: Strange divorce laws?
I don't know, but thats shitty. I think having to wait 6 months in Cali is bunk, I can't imagine having to wait a year!

Re: Strange divorce laws?
The year begins AFTER you file the separation papers in court. Also, if you've been apart for some time, but have had sex together, the separation time doesn't count. At the end of the year waiting time, you can file for divorce. It could take 90 days to get a court date; the time could be longer if parts of the divorce are contested.
My separation started in September, 2006 and my court date for the final divorce hearing is July 15, 2008.

The judge asks. I'm sure most would say no, even if they were doing the deed.
Also, family court penalties for perjury are pretty severe.
