Re: ilegal immigration (USA)
NP Joe. Thanks for not dragging it on. I appreciate it when people can accept they were wrong and are responsible enough to stay away from topics they know might get heated.
Now back on topic.
A few guys on the mor redneck side of the internet are actually dumbfounded that McC is for amnesty. They have no idea what to label anyone anymore. I hate it when people think its either liberal or conservative. I would like to think there are more than two choices.
My point was, even with people in either side of the spectrum, the country as a whole is dynamic enough where people tend to shift around. I think immigration is one of those topics.
Everyone who is proud of what they do and especially those that work with their hands think there are plenty of good americans willing to do rough jobs....that's just not true anymore.
Take a walk down to the welfare line and you will see what I'm talking about. Small town people around ranches have a strong work ethic, I have found. But go to cities where there was once a huge factory that closed down and a lot of those people that had no real skills other than the one thing they used to do are screwed.
One of my gripes with anti illegal immigration people is the whole "they are cutting into our services" mentality. What services are they talking about? I'd rather provide everyone with an education than have a group of illiterate people up to no good. I don't believe in the BS programs at school now, all the ESL and extra care for these poor people...F THAT! I was in ESL for a year and picked up english QUICK. So can everyone else. Healthcare? Why should we even provide free health care to people who can work anyway? GET OFF UR ASS IF YOU WANT MEDS! Everything else people throw around like the impact on traffic and our roads etc....well anyone willing to do the research knows where the money for that comes from and trust me when I say no one gets away from paying for those.
I honestly do have a problem with illegal immigration, but I have a problem with it for the right reasons.
I don't like america to be a haven for criminals.
I don't like when illegal immigrants keep breaking the law (other than breaking into a country hehe) and the system not being "able" to do anything.
I don't like companies taking advantage of these people and paying them crap just because they know they can get away with it.
I don't like illegals getting freebies. I come from parents who were illegal immigrants by default. When they were here, they worked hard and never once took a hand out. It used to be a thing of pride to be a mojado and making it big. Now it seems everyone comes here because they hear about "free" everything and the system has made it easy for those people to come here, live here forever, and not contribute positively.
I don't really have a problem with being offered assistance in other languages. I do have a problem with how the education system is failing these kids. Again, I'm a product of public education and I did fine. I had friends go the "other" route and get into gangs and are either dead, in prison, or somewhere else. For them, it was lack of strong parents...even then they were usually the welfereros as we call them.

Re: ilegal immigration (USA)
Juan,
Your Post opens up a lot of more doors on several Subjects.
Yes, John McCain is for amnesty (it has not been said for a long time and folks ave forgotten) - But so are the other two.
John McCain is far more Center, then hard core Republican, and I hope he stays that way.
A lot of companies are not only using illegals for cheap labor, they are also send tons of Jobs over to China! And we Americans are blind to this!
We as Americans have gotten so fat and happy with the prosperity of everything, we ignore the fact that there is going to be a big price to pay. And it will happen soon.

so you are able to see the big picture too! The illegal immigration debate is flawed big time by the outsourcing of "real" jobs most americans want anyway. Call a tech center, get someone in India when there are perfectly good tech people here....only problem is, they think they are worth a lot more than companies are willing to pay.

And most customers who have to call those tech centres would doubtless agree they are worth more than companies are willing to pay, and worth every penny they want.

Re: ilegal immigration (USA)
I guess I could make things very simple and say the solution has to be better than the problem.....
And there has not been a resolution perposed that is not worse than the problem........
