A NEW Zealand man got the fright of his life when an out of control car crashed into his house and knocked him off the toilet.

The owner of the four-wheel-drive had failed to put the handbrake on properly before the vehicle rolled down a 10m bank and into the house in the South Island city of Christchurch, the lcoal Press newspaper reported today.

Police said the car's owner was a building contractor working next door.

"He came back to his vehicle and found it next door, basically,'' Sergeant Kim Reid told the paper.

When the home owner was asked how the builder might be feeling, he reportedly said: "What about me? I got knocked off the toilet. I got a hell of a fright.''

Police said no charges would be laid.
