Extend Partition on XP
Okay, I have a Dell Dimension 9100. I have a 160GB hard drive that's listed as Disk 0 and is partition into 2 partitions, 1 at 40GB and 110GB for the second. I need to extend the 40GB to the entire drive due to programs I'm installing. Running out of room and don't want to have to reformat and re-install everything again.
What can I do to make this (C) drive of 40GB and (F) drive of 110GB, on the same disk of 160GB, into just a (C) drive??????
Thanks for the help,
Mike

Re: Extend Partition on XP
it depends on which drive the operating system is on. I used partition magic to fix the same problems because my c drive was rapidly filling up with programs. The only problem is that you cannot completely delete the 2nd partition, only transfer 99% of the space which was good enough4 me. I think to get rid of the second partition, you will have to reinstall windows, but i could be wrong.

Re: Extend Partition on XP
aaannnd speaking of filling up space on a hd ...
every program i have downloaded or installed was either copied or directed to a special "pgm dl folder" that had separate folders within in it for each program and any codes/passwords/info needed . zips and rars were extracted to the same folder and once the program was installed the zip/rar was deleted leaving the exe in place for future reference/re-installation . i have a lot of public domain/open source programs ... this makes it easy to find a program when i want to share it with someone .
this also makes it easy to "find" stuff and keeps the file system somewhat "neater" and easier to deal with . some of the programs want to dl/extract/install/work from the desktop or that ever so bloated "my documents" folder ... i don't think so ! . i also scan the files with two different "anti" programs before and extraction and before executing the install ... i have saved myself some grief and misery this way .
