Saving Streaming videos
my old computer, ran ME. when I ran into a streaming video online that wouldn't allow downloading, I simply watched it first. when it was over, I located it in my Windows/temporary internet files and dragged it to a new folder and I had it.
However, with new computer running XP this doesn't seem to work. First, the movie won't show up in the windows/Temp/Temp internet files folder. Searching for it by name doesn't work. What's odd is the TIF folder showed only about 1 MB of stuff in it. I am temporarily near capacity on my master HD. A warning came up to clear disk space, which I did. System told me I had 500 MB of temporary shit in it to delete!
Where are my temporary files going? Path please. I can't use FF to access the site with the movie I want, it allows only IE or Netscape.
thanks.

Re: Saving Streaming videos
C:\Documents and Settings\user\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files
"User" being the account you are logged into.
You may have to tell it to show hidden files..

I turned on hidden files last night when I was searching, I even remembered to search for hidden files in my search options.
When I go here:
C:\Documents and Settings
I see 4 accounts:
Administrator
All users
Owner
Default user
Each one seems to have a TIF folder within. Watching it stream again and will start looking when it's done and will report back.

Re: Saving Streaming videos
meh, my account seems to be owner. when I get here:
C:\Documents and Settings\user\Local Settings\
there is no TIF folder. I looked through everything, and the movie I want isn't in here, nor is it in any of the other user folders I mention above. what now? thanks.

Re: Saving Streaming videos
I don't no....I have'nt been able to capture streams on WIN 2000 either. It deletes the temp dump to quick. There's a program that will let you record anything that's on your Desktop. But it takes at least a 2.8 Gig P-4 processor to work correctly! I use to pull the same trick you did way back when I ran Windows 98SE.

Re: Saving Streaming videos
If you are logged in as "OWNER", it should be:
C:\Documents and Settings\owner\Local Settings\Temporary Internet File

as I said above, there is no TIF folder at this location. I was thinking, if I don't have this folder, where are the files that normally go in there really going?

Re: Saving Streaming videos
Honestly where bzg said to go is the default location for your Temp Internet files.
From Windows Explorer, select Tools/Folder Options and go to the "View" tab.
Make sure that:
A) "Display the contents of system folders" is checked
B) the radio button next to "Show Hidden Files and Folders" is clicked
C) "Hide extensions for known filetypes" is UNchecked
D) "Hide protected operating system files" is also UNchecked
click "Apply", and you should be able to see your Temporary Internet Files Folder under "C:\Documents and Settings\owner\Local Settings\"
if not, then you fail it.
srsly let us know & we'll try looking somewhere else (don't know where at the moment though)

Re: Saving Streaming videos
I've tried the above instructions and I can see some of the FLV or SWF files, but usually not the ones I really want to save. At other times, I can see the file, but I'm not allowed to copy it when it's still in use, but the file disappears as soon as I close the browser.
