Empty PCI slot...any ideas?
Hey all. I got the parents old computer and Im trying to get more involoved in the hardware aspect of computers. I cant wait to build my own personalized system but I guess you kind of need money for that, which I currently do not have. but anyways, i have a free pci slot (not pci-e) any ideas of a cool add on that is out there. I have been searching but there is so much stuff I dont know what to get. I dont use the computer for much, just mainly basic games and word processing since its not hooked up to the internet

What do you have on/in your PC already? What do you use your PC for?

Re: Empty PCI slot...any ideas?
I just added a USB 2.0 upgrade card a couple weeks ago and i have a crappy graphics card in there now but right now theres nothing really else in there I mainly use my computer to burn DVDs and play music and games sometime. Occasionally do some word processing but thats about it. Do you think maybe an extra USB fan would work maybe?

Graphics card is always a good choice.

Re: Empty PCI slot...any ideas?
don't put a graphics card in a PCI slot unless your video is total crap already...
I do this for a living.
what about a cheapo TV tuner?
or perhaps a diagnostic card? (costs more... LOTS more)
or maybe something altogether different? build your own card that takes the 5v off the slot and powers an lcd panel that is on the side and wired into thermometers....
heh... I did the last one...
(like I said, it's me job)
