Xbox 360 updates?

Anyone know if the system will automatically prompt you about all available updates upon turing on if connected to the internet? I usually don't have a connection because of it's location and lack of an adapter. I want to move it momentarily to get updates, mainly so I can play older games and get more use out of it. Thanks for any info.

It ought to update automatically, but make sure where you plug it in that you run thru the connection setup to connect on whatever network you're on...but yah it should then work ok & update without any further effort on your part

Is there somewhere specific to go to download the updates to play older games? Is it still unable to play many of the older ones? I only got it to accept like 2 outta 6 that I tried putting in.

I checked the Xbox.com and see that many games still aren't backward compatible. I do happen to have a few on the list. It's a good thing I still have my old system, so I can play them all. I only have two 360 games: Kameo and Perfect Dark. The latest game update did download when I put a compatible disc in. I just wish I could keep it connected at all times. Just don't have a setup that currently works for that. Thanks for the help guys.
