Hey everyone,

my GF has been on birth control for about 2 years now, and she just recently switched to loestrin 24 . for any women, do you know if switching to a different pill can make u suceptible to getting pregnant for the first month, because she is a week late for her period and still has not got it. im going to go get a pregnancy test tomorrow. just wondering if this is normal to be really late, or if i knocked her up?

thnx
bs

If she went from a low-dose to a high-dose pill she's probably just adjusting to the switch and skipped her period because of the extra hormones. If she went from high-dose to low-dose she may have had a higher risk of getting pregnant, but remember too that pills aren't 100%. I know lots of people who have gotten pregnant while on the pill. A test is a good idea.

Re: birth control pills...no period

While I am not a girl, I believe I can shed some light on what has happened.

From the limited info you provided, it appears that the doctor switched your girl friend from a biphasic oral Contraceptive to a monophasic contrceptive. One of the effects of the loestrin 24 is that it SHORTENS the length of the minstral cycle. It is very likely that the missed period was due to the missed timing of the folicular development during the first cycle. Also, loestrin 24 is considered to be a excellent contraceptive and is believe to be better than the biphasics.

Now on the dark side, women who use loestrin 24 will have higher rates of skin problems like acne but little problem with weight.

Conclusion: do not worry but if you are worried go get a pregnancy test. they are effective about 1-2 days after fertilization so you will know.
