I dont like condoms and niether does my girlfriend

Its a long distance relationship so its not worth her taking the pill,

I read a bit about the diaphram, but it sounds like a mood killer

Honestly the best contraception is no sex. Long distance or not, the pill is good. First, you have to be on it a while to get it into your system. It also has other advantages, like knowing when your period will be. If the diaphram is a mood killer, stick to condoms if she's not on the pill. I would even say use condoms anyway to protect you from STD's. There are some out there that lay dormant for years and some people may never know they have it (my high school friend has HPV - got it from her ex 6 years ago and just found out).

I'm in a long distance relationship and still use the pill. It's really not that expensive...but if you're worried about the cost, don't go for Yasmin- it's the most expensive. Plus, like Cinnamon said, there are a lot of added benefits. Regular cycles, less cramps, etc.

How often do you see each other? I see my bf about once a month or so, so I'm on the pill all the time. If you only see your gf every few months, she could always skip taking the pill for a cycle. Just make sure she follows the directions very carefully for when to start and stop. But I think it's worth the extra $10/month or so to stay on the pill full time.

Bottom line: it's either the pill or condoms.

If you do use condoms alone, make sure you use some spermicidal lubricant too. They say condoms are like 95% reliable but I've had too many break and other assorted bullshit to trust them completely.

Diaphragms actually aren't that bad. You can put them in several hours before you have sex and have to leave them in a couple hours afterwards too. And if you want to keep having sex she doesn't need to take it out every time, just keep adding more spermicide. It is kind of cumbersome and messy but won't mess with her hormones and you won't have to worry about condoms breaking (which is usually because they're not used properly).

We see each other for a week once every month or 2, she used to take the pill a few years back but did like the side effects

The other choice is to try a different brand of the pill. I don't like any of the ortho stuff - but Norinyl did better for me. It may be a matter of finding one that works with her body

....err.......ever tried widthdrawal method....may be a strain on you....an takes a lot of self control.....but if you perfect it....no condoms...no pills ....no hassles......just be hygenic.....an you can ride bare-back all you want....

I honestly hope that you are not using the withdrawl method as your form of contraception. Even before you ejaculate your penis can dribble out a tiny amount of sperm which will cause pregnancy. I believe its only like 60+% reliable - so unless you want a family don't bother with the withdrawl method.

Either rubber up or use the pill.

It's my understanding that IUDs have come a long way since I'd used one. I had one years ago and really liked it. Unfortunately, after having it in for 6 or 8 months I started having terrible cramps so I had it removed. My sister has been using one for quite a while now and is happy with it.

My girlfriend just switched to the ring I think it's called NuvaRing or something like that. She really likes it, it's a hormonal type of birth control but its low dose (she was a little crazy on the pill) but this doesn't seem to affect her. It's a plastic ring coated with hormones, it's inserted into the vagina and stays there for 3 weeks. Neither of us have ever felt it or even noticed it. Its a little more that the pill about $35 a month but we both seem to think it's worth it.
