So I wanted to switch out harddrives between two diffrent computers. Diffrent brands also. Im pretty much inexperienced with hardware wise things. So i have everything hooked up correctly. Now the computer wont start, i can get the bios screen up though but if i dont get that up the screen just stays black.what do i have to do concidering all the drivers and everything are on opposite drives. help. me. please.

yes i was thinking this wouldnt even work because windows doesnt know what to do with all the diffrent hardware, but i belive i do i wrote it all down, unless im wrong can you tell me which is supposed to be which ill check.

probably, the best thing to do is to find geek near you. i cant tell you which one is master and which one is slave without looking at em. maybe someone else here can help you, but not i. im more of a software junkie. sorry.

i live in a hick town, im the closest thing to geek here. We'll the computer wouldnt even start if they were wired wrong correct? It starts up qucik and goes to a black screen with the line, like im in ms-dos writing somthing. Its weird. Ill keep trying though thanks

i dunno, my ex roommate used to be a hardware freak,and when our 160 gig died we found out because we were turning on the pc and it was going to the black screen.

try putting whatever brand harddrives you have followed by master/slave settings in a google search

if you only switched out a hard drive from one computer to the next they should already be set on master... if they are then the hard drives might not be compatible with the other computer... other than that i cant think of anything

so it should work if icheck if the hard drives are compatible. I didnt think it would work im just trying to find out if theres any sucess stories of what im trying to do. I sold my comp to my friend and this is the comp im trying to put his hard drive for him.He wont stop bugging me or id just quit lol
