Clearly, the mainstream media’s longstanding policy of not naming sexual assault victims has in no way shielded her from a wave of fear and intimidation, proponents of naming rape victims say. But those in favor of maintaining secrecy say the onslaught would be much worse if her name had been splashed across the front pages of newspapers around the country.
